Family owned and operated since 1946, Scharf Farm provides customers with seasonal homegrown produce straight from our family's farm to your family's table. In October of 1945, William and Marguerite D. (Wehmeier) Scharf married, and that following spring marked Scharf Farm's first growing season with grain farming (wheat, corn, soybeans) as well as homegrown strawberries and asparagus sold at the farm's roadside stand 4 miles north of Millstadt, Illinois. By the late 1960's, production of grain, strawberries, and asparagus increased, along with a few other fruits and vegetables.
In the mid-1970's, Allen Scharf, William and Marguerite's third and youngest child, a school teacher and farmer, and his bride Nancy (Erwin) Scharf, expanded the family farming business to include the wide variety of produce and greenhouse products still grown today, and in 1979 added our second location at Soulard Market in the City of St. Louis, Missouri. In 2019, Allen and Nancy's kids, the third generation of Scharf Farm, expanded to include the O'Fallon Station Vine Street Market.
Over the new year, our family spent time together in Florida. Little did we know what was coming! From our family to yours, we want to thank you for supporting Scharf Farm. While the disruption caused by the pandemic is like nothing we've ever seen and the cooler temps make for a slow start to the growing season, we are thankful for your patronage, your kindness, and your encouragement.
